INVEST
Invest in our mission to advance the rights of people with disabilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Our mission is simply stated, but the task is enormous.
Our mission requires talent, skills, and resources. DRCVI has the talent and commitment of a top-notch board of directors and a highly skilled and dedicated staff. Every year we help people who are desperate to be treated with dignity and respect. We respond to hundreds of requests for assistance from people with disabilities.
We need YOUR help with the resources.
According to the latest census count, approximately 15% of the total population in the territory has a disability. Many are children. While disability crosses all boundaries-ethnicity, age, gender, religion, and sexual orientation, as a group, people with disabilities are among the poorest of our citizens, in large part because their rights have not been fully recognized or enforced.
Which brings us back to DRCVI and back to you
DRCVI is the federally-mandated protection and advocacy entity for the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is the only organization in the territory that exclusively provides access to justice on behalf of people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities. Our work helps to change the lives of the people we serve, while working for systemic change. Your donation will augment our limited resources and enable us to come closer to meeting the great demand for our services.
A few examples of our many successes, which should help you understand the value of your contribution to our work, are:
- Successful settlement of litigation that called for the complete overhaul of the territory’s mental health service system (VI Alliance v. Government of the Virgin Islands),
- Researched and completed a territory-wide report entitled, “U.S. Virgin Islands Polling Place Accessibility Survey,
- Produced and aired an educational video on healthcare reform as it relates to the U.S. Virgin Islands,
- Conduct training workshops in unserved communities,
- Represent individuals or groups of individuals who want to work.
Those are just a few of the many areas in which the Disability Rights Center of the Virgin Islands has been advocating on behalf of people of all ages in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Your generous support in any amount will make a difference.
